Animation has been an integral part of my life since a very young age, shaping me both as an artist and as a professional. While traditional 2D animation and anime have left an indelible mark on my sense of aesthetic, it’s intriguing to observe how the world of animation has evolved over the years. No longer confined to niche genres, animated films have become one of the highest-grossing forms of entertainment in the mainstream.
In recent years, we have witnessed an incredible resurgence in the popularity of animated content targeted at mature audiences. The boundaries of what animation can achieve have expanded, proving that this medium is not just for children anymore. This newfound maturity in storytelling and thematic exploration has opened up a world of possibilities for artists and creators, further diversifying the art of animation.
In this series of blog posts, I plan to explore diverse aesthetics across animation genres, from 2D to 3D to stop-motion. To kick things off, I’ve decided to focus on developing the look for an action sci-fi CG film featuring anthropomorphic animals. I wanted to test Midjourney 5.2 for style consistency and fidelity with technically complex elements such as fur and particle dynamics, all while really pushing the scale and scope of large action set pieces. Hope you enjoy it!
Stay inspired and stay connected.
